ok... so the math and the physics aren't sufficient to make a dent in this "observed " mysterious loss due to the fairy dust paint...

try this.... stick your hand in the water at 60 mph... what you feel is about 1/4 hp worth of drag. now multiply that times 200 and thats the kind of drag you are taking about....

or.. think about the heat that would be generated on the painted surface by the skin friction alone to have that much drag... a 60 hp motor worth of heat....

you want to believe in old wives tales and myths... thats ok. but that belief will delay you from actually finding out what is causing your loss in the end. or keep you from finding it at all.

A friend of mine bought a new 23ft Sea swrill fishing boat with a V6 outboard. He had the dealer bottom paint it, and they used a hard epoxy bottom paint. The following season, he sanded, and painted the bottom with Micron CSC, and lost 4mph from the previous season. He made no other changes to the boat. This was verified on GPS. Boat was consistantly slower the second season. Go figure!
