I have a HP500 longblock for sale if you want to be back in the water quick. It has 0 hours and is ready to go. I had it refreshed to sell it, it had 83 hours originally. I'll let it go for $7000 if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer JBergstrom777, Quick time on the water is what I want also, but I can probably get mine going for around $2-3000. If I bought yours then I would have to finish mine and then try and sell it.
I should have the short block done in the next week. And I should be able to get the heads from one of the guy's on my other thread (Cracked 502 head! Anyone have a set to unload?), by next week, so I shouldn't have too much down time.

Send me a pm or post a pic of the combustion chamber and I can tell you if the head can be repaired. I have been there. you may be able to cut for larger seat or even interlock 2 seats, going oversize on the seat . of course the right crush fit, and maybe even just a staking around the seat is all that is needed depending on the damage. If has sharp edges they can be ground smooth and heads can be cc'd and may work fine. BBB

Thanks for the input Big Block!
I will be picking up the parts from the machine shop tomorrow, so I will be able to get a picture of the head. I will be heading to the lake for the weekend and reassembling the short block, so I will try and post it over the weekend. I did buy a set of HP500 heads from mrhorsepower1, and they are in the mail, UPS.
Per your previous comment "those 502's had mucho problemos, and alot of valvetrain issues." do the HP500's have the same problem, because I think they are the same GM number.
It would still be good to fix this head, then I could sell the set of 502 heads, or have a spare on the shelf.

I can't bs you and say absolutely yes , they are cammed differently and am not as familiar with them as with a 502.
If it was mine , I would at least upgrade the lifters if they haven't been done so already, or find out the cut off year when the problems were resolved and see what you have.
A 502 I worked on was a 1996 and had this problem. Also had seen it on several other older motors. BBB
