I've seen a few threads on the Mercury 383 MPI replacement engine and I though I'd pass along some real world data.
A buddy of mine just installed the 383 MPI in his 1989 25' Mach 1. The boat originally had a 330 454 and ran 52 mph. Our first trip out it ran a solid 58 right at the max rpm of 5200 with a beat up old 21 Quicksilver prop. I'm sure she'll hit 60 with a better prop.
Also, the boat now sits 4" higher out of the water. The 383 is a great option for a tired old 454.

I just put one in my 1973 Donzi X-18 that we are restoring. We are expecting 70+ My mechanic has done a few of these with good results. A heck of a deal for the engine, transom assembly and drive. Turn key and runs on 87.
