Ok we put a new 350 in my wellcraft, I bought that tool to align the engine with the outdrive shaft, greased it up, inserted it and then when I pull out the tool, there is only about one inch of spline marks on the top of the tool and on the bottom there are spline marks the whole length of it. Does the motor need to come up or down? It seems like I have went up and down to the extreme already. Please help, I need to hit the water

Not that I am an expert, but I just went through a similar problem with my boat. I finally got the engine set to where the tool would slide in and out real easy, but the marks in the grease were like yours. After an hour of adjusting I got it back to where it was easiest and left it that way. The outdrive goes in and out like a dream! Any info would be nice!

Where on the tool are the splines hitting (topside)? If the marks are only on the very end of the tool, then the engine needs to go up. The bottom of the tool tends to get spline marks all the way every time that I have done an alignment. I guess thats because of tolerances, the tools weight and the fact that it was always close. If the tool moves freely with two fingers, then it's good enough.
