Default engine temp

what is the normal operating temp for a stock 454,330hp,i had to replace the circulating pump on fridat, now it runs like 110 on the gauge and before it ran 135-140,i did tighten up the tension in the springs on the rod in the thermostat housing, does that matter?

The normal temp is around 145. It is supposed to have a 143 stat in it. Putting on a new circulation pump shouldnt change the temp that much. It sounds like you have a stat stuck open maybe. By tightening the springs up on the bipass you would only keep the water in the engine longer, which should cause the engine to run a little warmer not cooler.
