Default Tune up time for 2000 502 (stock MPI)

Looking for some help here. My boat is a 2000 with a stock 502 MPI. All original. Time to change the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, serpentine belt, and anything else you may suggest. I'm looking for a contact to call and order exactly what I need, shipped to my door. If anybody has a good suggestion, let me know. Also, I have a type 29 battery in my boat and wanted to purchase a billet battery box for it. Any suggestions where to find one, or will a type 30 work?

Trick Marine will be able to help you with most of your needs. What you can't get from Fred @ Trick you can contact Bam Marine.

Add exhaust manifolds and elbows to your list.

Why am I adding exhaust manifolds and elbows to my list? I'm not looking for performance upgrades, just routine maintenance. This is not the boat to add money to for performance, a 26' Powerquest with a 502 will never be a rocket ship . Maybe the next boat will get some upgrades.

P.C.V. valve, check exhaust riser gaskets for leakage, clean flame arrestor, change water separator filter. Is the boat used in salt water? If so you might want to check for corrosion damage more extensively.

At 7 years old, replacing the mercruiser exhaust manifolds is "routine maintenance". When they do let go, you will have more to do that maintenance.

napa or any reputable parts house has everything for this motor at 1/5 the price of the voodoo marine branded stuff. they have this motor listed in their parts book and its all off the shelf " no magic " chevy . the rest is folklore and all a matter of specific application, usage and what you have done previously and what you care to believe.

don't reinvent the wheel

I used off the shelf Accel cap and rotor on my 454 MAG MPI. There isn't anything special about the Merc stuff on that either. I used NGK Plugs, MSD 8.5 MM Marine Specific Wire set. About the only thing marine specific about it was that the wires were long enough to go under the headers.

Accel 8132 Cap and rotor kit

MSD 31489 Wire Set

NGK BPR6FS plugs - Projected tip

All these were for my 2000 Gen VI 454 MAG MPI. I don't know that the 502 takes the same stuff, but I would bet it does.
