496 HO performance/HP upgrade.

Need for speed everyone. HOW??

2002, 496 HO's, (140hours) bravo I, in a 33 foot boat. Now it does about 70 may be 72 on good days. What is the most economical and reliable gismos that I can add to them to increase HP, thus pick up speed?

Labbed props? Removing some exhust restrictors? Headers? new Stainless or IMCO exhusts manifold system? Does nose cones do anyting? Reprograming? etc.??
I want to hit 80. I got $5,000 to $6,000 in my budget.

You OSO name is fitting as it isn't likely you can get a 10 MPH increase on any 70 MPH OS boat for $5-6K. As it relates to HP, call and talk to Raylar (OSO advertiser), their expertise are HP mods to 496's.

I'd also say Raylar is probably the "bang for the buck". However, unless you're a magic man...you're not gonna get 10mph for $6k. Call Ray and I'm sure he'll help you as much as he's helped me.

If you are able to spend about 10 to 11 grand you could drop two Prochargers O

I'd be a little timid of blowing an otherwise stock 496. My engine is @ the shop as we speak getting bored 30 over, as well as forged internals. Needless to say, I didn't plan an August rebuild. I picked up a snazzy little dual 02 sensor/gauge, fuel pressure gauge and vacuum gauge to help prevent this from happening again too. I know opinions vary, but after seeing my #3 piston, I felt something stronger and a little monoriting was in order.

If you want to leave everything inside stock, I'd have to say a good exhaust would be the least expensive way to wake up a 496, but I have a hard time spilling $2,500 - $4,000 for maybe 1-4 mph (as I've read). If your exhaust does what it's supposed to do, you will probably have to add some fuel pressure and I know first hand what happens when you alter your PCM without monoriting it.
