Sounds like a sweet project. But got to ask. Why worry if the diesel sounds like a BBC? Dont you want a diesel to sound like one? Cummins all the way.

Just my two cents...My friend has been toying with cummins for some time now. His street truck makes around 600hp to the wheels, with 1450 ft/lb's of torque and the pulling truck made 820 at the wheels, it would be the most awesome boat spectacle ever seen. Free flowing water cooled manifolds will be an issue as with the drives.......I've been thinking about this for 3 years now. Maybe someone should start with a 29-32 ft single engine boat for fun

I can't recall the name of the company in Florida but they are one of, if not the, largest Yanmar repower center in the nation. A couple years back they put a pair of Yanmars in a Spectre 36 and got 108 out of it. Article was in Powerboat if I recall. Had to run an extemely low gear and huge wheels due to the rpm limitations of the diesel but it was a very cool project. I'm sure it was murder on the drives with all the gear/prop they had to run and the torque of those oil burners.

My neighbor has a 43 Black Thunder with trip Yanmars/Bravos. Boat only runs low 60's but it will do it all day every day. His are 330hp but I think Yanmar has since released a 440hp version, which may be the 330 version with a turbocharger and some other goodies.
