2000+ stepped 382's with 500HP's run 74 at best. If your boat (straight bottom) is running 75 with 454 mags them someone has done significant work to the inside of those motors. (my guess would have been 65 on GPS, not 75).
My suggestion of Arnesons on the other thread was if you had none of the hardware needed. Since you already have it, I'd seriously consider re-fresh/re-build what you already have.

Yep, my '89 311 with 454 mags ran 64.9 gps. It took a good bit of engine work to get the boat into the low to mid 70's. Plus, your looking at having a total investment of around 130K into a '94 model straight bottom 382? If you passed up a deal on a 2004 Fountain with 496's to invest this kind of money in a 13 year old boat....... Don't get me wrong, I loved my Formula and will eventually move into a 400SS when it's time to get out of the Ciggies, but it's just a matter of diminishing returns. Too much cashola into too old of a boat.
