Crane 731 or 741
Who has used/is using either the 731 or 741 on a carbed 500hp? What other parts are you using with this combo? In the middle of my rebuilds and one cam already has a lobe wiped out so looking to make a change/upgrade. Or does anyone have any other cam that they are getting good numbers with?
Just checking what results others have had. Looks like the 741 would be a little much for an otherwise stock 500hp but.... Well, they do have headers rather than manifolds but other than that, basically stock.

We ran a 741, in a 540 with AFR aluminum heads and a whipple. Made good hp all the way through the rpm band. We put it in straight up. Have heard that advancing it a couple of degrees helps. Need more information on your parts. Are you running the Gil exhaust that came on it. Porting the heads any. Not a real gear head, Im sure that some of the engine builders on here will put you in the right direction.

I appreciate the input but I need real experience with the 502ci 500hp. I'm sure the bigger inch motors do liven up with the 741 and forced induction, though.

Donald,
Call RMBuilder re cam advice. He is the expert.
However, most folks I've seen use the 741 are helping airflow with head porting/aluminum heads in addition to the cam.
Increase compression, port heads, better cam, ensure your stock carbs flow and you will get a noticeable difference in hp i.e. increased speed. Hunting and pecking with the performance parts can be dissapointing.

Also, RMBuilder can grind you custom cams for somewhat more than an off the shelf cam which may work better. He uses Kip at Cam Motion in Baton Rouge.
