550 hp 454
i am repowering my 21' scarab 1 with a big block... i have a 454 that is bored .030 over and am wondering what are the best heads, cam and intake setup to get it to roughly 550hp.
i have already installed splayed 4 bolt main caps and had it line honed. open to any suggestions...thanks

i did this in my scarab last summer.
I started with my 7.4l did not bore it.
ZZ502 aluminum heads
ZZ502 intake
ZZ502 cam
1.7 roller rockers
polished crank
je/srp 10.1: pistons
aluminum manifolds
Barry grant demon 825cfm carb.
Hei distributor/ignition
crossover
I gained 12mph and still need to find a better prop to get me 400 more RPM's
Do a search and you will find all you need to know.Good luck

Mine is a 454 MAG MPI 30 over with a set of RHS aluminum heads. We used Tyler Crockett's camshaft, and computer program (mine is fuel injected obviously) to make 501.3 @ 5200 rpm on a pretty stingy dyno. In the end, it is a great setup. It idles well around the docks, and is a torque monster running down the lake. After I get the prop situation set, it will be a strong, bulletproof package. I'd look at doing something similar if I were you.

i have a set of stellings black series tubular headers and 1.7 roller rockers with triple valve springs and two cams to try one is roughly a .650 lift solid roller and the other is .730 solid roller. one of my concerns with is the round ports on the headers. not sure if this will cause any problems with a square exhaust port on the heads.
