Timing Gears for 454's?
Hi,Does anyone have any experience losing the timing chains on these BBC's in boat applications?
I'm assembling bits and pieces to rebuild two Mercruiser 454's - castings 10114182 - just bought used. I'm thinking a couple of gearsets are cheap insurance, so if there is a popular choice, I'm really interested.
I lost one in a Chevelle some years back and it wasn't pretty. The Mercruiser 165 '74 straight 6 I've had for 33 years came with a billet gearset and has been flawless despite the beating, so I was surprised to see chains on these Merc BBs.
