Default Wiring Harness for Mercruiser 454 carbed

How do I know which is the correct wiring harness to purchase? I am rerigging an older boat and have a 454 Mercruiser carbed motor. There is not much help out there on this subject that I have found. Thanks

Here's a good place to start looking. search with pictures.
Look for late 80's or early 90's. I just got a harness to convert my 502 mpi to a carb. Gives me all gauges and alarms.
Part # 84-847722A2
They run around $300 for new.

C P Performance sells a kit where you can make your own length wires and custom fit the harness to your engine. About 150 dollars.

Whats the differance in the MPI harness and the carb harness? The reason I ask is i have a 1991 7.4l 454 hraness he can have but we are not sure if it will work since he just found out the motor is a 98 mpi that has already been converted to a carb.

On an MPI motor the are actually two harnesses. The engine charging harness and the efi harness wich pluges into the the charging harness. With a mefi 3 ecu some of the sending units wires go throuh the the ecu. You can split the two. you will need to do a little more wireing.

Not sure how to attach a picture here. I have the wireing diagram if you need one.
