.020" sbc head gasket
Is there a .020" sbc head gasket out there that does not need wire spaces cut into the block? I am looking for something that thick for my 383. Mostly so I will not have to deck the block.

mtn,
I am pretty sure that Fel Pro has a steel shim gasket that thin, and I think Cometic has one also. If you can find a set of the old GM shim gaskets, thats about what they were too. I dont have catalogs here at home to look at, but almost cetain at least three manufacturers have them. I can find out Monday if nobody else answers before then.

If your using a factory GM cylinder block. I would do a check and deck on the block. Mock the rotating assembly up and at least check your deck clearence on the end cylinders, 1,7,2,8. at TDC on each. Deck trueness is very important as you know to head sealing. You may find taper or twist in the deck. I also would run about .010 piston to deck clearence with a .038 gasket thickness.
