Default who to do holley carb rebuild????

Have a stock 502 merc 425hp engine running an 830 holley carb. I believe my carb was acting up last year and running rich. It is now 5 year old with no rebuild.

Who do you recommend, and will get the job done right? I live in Baltimore MD, but will ship if the person and the price is right.

jon

jv,
Holleys are very easy to do yourself, but if you dont feel comfortable with it, try Dave at MDG Performance Marine in Annapolis. 410-956-5077 Also AED in Richmond. http://www.aedperformance.com/

For stock rebuilds, you can esasily do it yourself. Ifou want or need something tricked out, I second Nickerson. I shouldnt used the word "Trick" around here. Lately, thats taboo.

Nickerson is the best for custom tuning. If all you need is a rebuild and no jetting changes do it yourself. Hiring Nickerson to do this is like having a proctologist oversee a fart and provide consultation fee.

LOL!!!

Rebuilding a Holley is WAY simple! There should be some books to walk you through it if you haven't done it before. Once you go through one, you'll understand how easy it is.

Was the carb ever really tuned for the engine to start with????

Are you sure there is something wrong with the carb????

I agree that Holleys are by far the easiest carb to rebuild. There are no special techniques or procedures to know.
A couple cans of spray carb cleaner and an hour or so of your time. My best advice - buy a "Holley" brand rebuild kit ($40 at most parts stores for your 830 double pumper).
There are several books on the subject and probably some websites out there showing a rebuild on a Holley.
If you`re still a little nervous about tackling it yourself, contact a local hot rod shop or one of the guys mentioned above.
