Well for me the closest ground in the bilge where my hour meters are would be the block or the mercathode would either of these work? I really don't want to use the ground on the trim pumps. I'm hoping on the 500efi's there's a connector somewhere so I don't have to splice into the wire prefer not to cut the harness anywhere. I also read that on the alternator there's a positive post that only is hot when engine is running which would be ideal if so...Any truth to this?

We hooked it up to the purple wire on the coil and grounded it to the bell housing. We did this on the old 272 and the 382.

Either will work fine to ground it. Use the purple to the coil.

On EFI I noticed theres 2 purple wires here. One with white line on it and a solid purple. I'm assumming it's the solid, but we all know what happens when you assume.

Use the solid purple. Not sure what the striped one is for. Purple is power on when the key is on.

Thanks. I just noticed it was near the coil pack so I wanted to be positive I was splicing into the right wire.

I'm either not doing something right here or there's more than one purple wire. Can you give me a idea where to look exactly for this purple wire cause the one I found doesn't have power with the key on.

UPDATE

Figured out which wire it was. Wish there was a way to wire in to actual engine so it only registers when engine is running. Thanks for help on this.
