Another thread on Cams suggestions
I've got a 427 tall deck engine, stroked to 496. I'm having the engine bored and rebuilt with new pistons/rings/bearings etc. I'm also having the heads rebuilt. The heads are oval port (I want to upgrade to rectaangular next year) I'm having new valves(inconnel) springs and retainers. The boat is a class 6 raceboat (OPA) only used for racing. I was getting about 425 horsepower but would like to get 500+. What cam would you suggest??? Thanks!!!!

Crane 741 seems to be the gold standard. I ordered custom Clay Smith cams that were spec'ed specifically for my engines & boat. The cams were pretty much 741's.
I'd stick a set of 088 heads on it now before going thru all the expense of rebuilding the one's you have- those ovals are going to be a big barrier. The current GMPP head, 12562920
is pretty good and can be had inexpensively but they have big chambers- not great if you want to run race gas.

I have an extra set of Dart Iron Eagle 308cc ported to 320 cc. These heads we ported by Sonny Leonard and support 750+ HP. Great acceleration. These heads are set-up with titamium intake valves & retainers, Manley Inconel exhaust valves, Isky springs. Included is a matching custom Sonny's ported Brodix HV 2001 intake. These are set up to run with flat top pistons and pump gas at 9.3 CR or race gas if you want to use a domed piston.
