Default Gear shift cable switch help

I'm getting a counter rotating lower unit for an older Formula with twin Alpha RH rotation. OK.. the lower units are available, but I have to change the gear shifting to "push", to have it shift in reverse and actually have the correct (LH) rotation. ANy ideas? Any kits around?

Does anyone makes a counter rot. lower unit that does not need shifting switch?? for Alpha 1?
THX . P

Correct.

Just connect the shift cable up to the lever
on the opposite side ( from where the cable is currently connected)of the shift lever at the shifter quadrant.

THe shift system is either by Formula or Quicksilver. (older type) Can't be done at the front shifter, I have to do it at the motor. I have to make some home made special reverse bracket or something.

Take a picture of your shifter. Nearly every one can be switched.

I don't think you can run an Alpha "backwards" like you can a Bravo.
I may be wrong or it may be the beer talking, but I just don't think it is as easy as it is on a bravo. At least on the older style Alphas.

Jason..

Aftermarket counter rotating lower units are available. THey switch the "strong" forward gear to the reverse, but you have to run the drive in reverse.
I'm not 100% sold on this idea yet, but I will try it, (and keep the old lower unit in the garage. JIC )

Actually I think it is how the thrust bearings are put in the lower unit for a CR one. That being said, if you have the Quicksilver shifter, you should be able to switch it without a whole lot of hassle. I switched the one on my Stinger in less than an hour including adjustment. It's not that bad of a job at all. Does your shifter look like mine in the picture?

PS---you will love the difference in how the boat handles after you swap the CR on....

Yup. It looks just like that. I have to start taking it appart and take a closer look.

So what do I do.. take off the cable and turn it around re-installing to push????

The lever that the shift cable attaches to should
have an attachment point ( for the shift cable) on the opposite side of the levers pivot point.
