Thanks for all your suggestions. Can I get away with changing the cam without doing anything to the heads? I already plan to change the exhaust. The motor is in the boat but I have no problem pulling it. Also should I find a thunderbolt IV dist or use a MSD? Thanks again.

For what you are doing, I would just look for a used TB IV. They are very reliable.

How can I check my valve springs, I understand what you guys are saying about binding. Do I just turn it over by hand after installing a new cam? What brand of cam is suggested? Also dont know what exhaust to use, would a EMI Thunder do the trick?

Any aftermarket exhaust will work as long as it has long risers that induce water farther back. Revolution Marine is about as budget minded as you can get.
As far as checking the springs, you need to check for binding, install height and adequate spring pressures. The bigger the cam you use the more spring pressure you need. The springs can be replaced w/o removing the heads.
The peanut port heads are your biggest restriction as far as making power. You're getting to a point where you need to decide on a budget and then go from there. It may even be more cost efficient to sell what you have the buy a stock 454mag, 502mpi, or 496ho take out engine.

I would be interested in the MPI system complete with harness and fuel pump. Will you furnish the ECU serial number and the engine serial number. I have dart intakes and good Dominator carbs.

tunertech: I have to get into the boat this weekend to get any info. Are you thinking of some sort of trade? What model of intake and carb do you have?

the only bad thing about those motors is that the heads suck. they only make a handful of intakes for them. If i were you, I would try and find some small CC runner large ovals and a small cam. My 22' Scarab had the 315hp 454 (carb) version of your motor boat went 61 on GPS stock. I did Heads, cam, rockers, Intake and 750 cfm carb and picked up 13 mph. If you are going to go through the trouble of putting carbs on it, you might want to consider heads as well.

you can email me at [email protected] when you get the info.
Dominator 1050 and Dart open plenium for the 1050. I also have other intakes and carbs. I am sure I have about any combination. I will know better after you give me the engine serial number.

I have a great combination that I can send you, cam, intake, heads etc. Or I can send you the whole engine. Makes a little over 500HP and 550lbs of torque. My single engine screams with tis combination.
It will make a huge difference in what you have now, if you plan on leaving the fuel injection. I personally love the old school simplicity of the carburator.
