Default water pump pick up question

Upgrading from a twin 502's with standard water pump pulling water through the trans cooler to the engine.

Now I have twin 555ci's / 700 HP but adding an oil cooler and monster offshore custom see strainer.

Question is, will my standard water pump pick up the water and pull through the water pick ups, 12" trans cooler, 24" x 3" oil cooler, and then through a large high performance offshore custom sea strainer? Do I need to modify anything or upgrade pumps?

Jim, need some knowlege?

Put the strainer first in line. Try to mount it at or below water level. That way it will stay full of water at all time. The pump will pull water from the strainer and create a vacuum to help continue pulling water. Then send the water through the coolers and on to the motor.

As with anything else Jim, your other route would to go to a two stage water pump which means you have two impellers in tandem. With a dual stage you can pull all the water you want and not have to worry about cooling the engine. And yes the sea strainer is first in line. The second cooler is power steering return line and the third is the trans cooler and then to the engine. Dual stage pumps means one fitting in and one fitting out. Easy to install..

Generally you only need a two stage pump on blown engines with inter-coolers. Also check your oil temp once finished. Too big of an oil cooler is not good. You want to be 220 ish to keep moisture from collecting in motor.

I only run a 2 stage pump on engines set up with a borg warner style bellhousing with coolers in it. I run one stage of the pump to each cooler. (engine oil and trans)
Everything else gets a single stage pump. A 2 stage pump isn't going to move any more water than a single unless you have a big pickup and a 1 1/2" intake hose or larger. If you feed a 2 stage pump with a 1 1/4 hose, it won't really move any more water than a single stage pump. The only advantage to the 2 stage is that you basically have a back up impeller if one goes.
Be sure to run an oil thermostat to build oil temp in a cold motor. You have a big cooler, so without a thermostat, you will have trouble building temp in a cold motor.
Eddie.
