I will have 4 total batteries. The headunit is hooked up to the Port engine starting battery along with about half of the boats accessories. The starboard battery is just a starting battery with the other half of the boats accessories hooked to it.

I want to run my amps off of the two new batteries Im putting in.

With this information, should I still connect the speakers in series or should I just get 2 amps and run 6 speakers on each amp? Im so confused with all this. I definately dont want to overheat an amp by running it under 1 ohm like chris was saying. But I also dont want to increase my impedance and lose all my sound.

So what if I ran two of these amps and put 6 of the 6x9's on each one. Would that work?
1200W 4 CHANNEL AMP
300 watts x 2 RMS @ 4ohms bridged
150 watts x 4 @ 2 ohms RMS

Also, Im wanting to put in two 10's or 12's depending on how my measurements come out for the fiberglass enclosures under the bolsters. Trying to design something that will still allow me to stand up while driving. thats frustrating in itself. I may just move them into the cabin and build a box in there.

How long do you think Ill be able to listen to this system with the amps running off of their own batteries?

Any help is appreciated..
is one of the amps a class d sub amp if so dont hook 6X9 to that. do you have subs??

Do you have 2 battery switches???

i put a total of 12 6x9's in. Im still amp shopping. Its between pioneer and kicker now I think. My boat didnt come with battery switches but I want to install some switches on the amps to be able to turn them completely off at the panel.

Do you have any advice on what brand amp i should get?

What about subs, should i really be tryin to go with a sealed box or should i just put in a couple of free-air subs under the rear bench? I really want the hardhitting bass sound..

Get 2 alpine pdx 4.150 amps. Run 8 speakers off one amp. Run 4 speakers and 2 subs off the other.

or get 1 4.150 for 8 speakers, 1 4.100 for 4 speakers and 1 600 or 1000 watt sub amp.

gotcha. Thanks griff..

Now, onto batteries.. Im adding two deep cell marine batteries. How should I wire these up? Should i connect all 4 of my batteries together? I really like having my starting batteries dedicated to JUST starting.. That way I dont jam out all day and then need a jump to get home. (like alllll of last year).

You can do it 2 ways.

Run 2 batteries off each engine either way. You can use 2 battery isolators or run 2 perko battery switches. Run 1 amp off each of the deep cycles.

I prefer the switches as it gives you the choice of what gets charged when. You will need to run some new battery cables. each battery + will get connected to a switch. The battery - can be connected to each other if needed.

Ok, i believe Ive finally got everything that I need to start the install minus batteries and wiring..

Heres what I went with.

2- 1000w 4 Channel Amps
12- Alpine 6x9's
1- Kicker 1000.1 Class D Sub Amp
3- S10L7's (10" square subwoofer)

Ive got panels made for the 6x9s and the amps. I still dont know what to do with the subs. Theres no room in the gunnels, under the seats (batteries) or in the kick panel by the driver and passenger. So what Im thinking is putting them in a regular sub box and strapping it down in the Vberth aiming aft.
After the season is over, im going to have a custom rearbench seat made so i can get rid of my riggedass backseat.

So, do I need to install caps with this system?
And also, Im adding two more batteries for a total of 4. Possibly adding a third which would total 5. I cant find a 5 bank charger anywhere. How is it supposed to be set up where I can charge everything?

1st Amp- 1000w.4 w/ 6 6x9's on each channel
2nd Amp- 1000w.1 w 3/ 10" subs

I also ended up with a 250.2 due to the ebay auction that I got my 1000w.1 from, what should I do with it?

thanks for everyones help.

Also, does ANYONE know of a battery box that you can step on? At a boat show last year, I saw a billet battery box that had grip tape on it and could be used as a step. I believe I will be adding my new batteries outside of the rearseat (so they'll have to be exposed) If i had a battery holder with a step on the top, i could get it powder coated to match the boat and it wont look so ghetto.
