Blow Me ?
Im hoping one of you supercharger gurus will repond to this But Im sure with a title like that alot of people will chime in !!! Im eyeballing the pair of B&M 174s for sale in the classifed section. I know these are discontinued and the only way to rebuild em is to machine other rotors to fit.Just a few questions, how durable are they under normal wear and tear ? what do I look for to tell if they are worn out ? how expensive would it be to rebuild ? are they worth the 3K asking price if they arent in need of rebuilds ? teflon strips on the rotors ? are these the dominator top plate or the 4150 ? these would potentially be mounted on top of carbed 454 mags (circa 1990) or carbed Gen IV 502s depending on cost and best application

My personal opinion.... The 174 blower is really designed to be on a small block. On a 454 it is marginal, and it is simply too small for a 502. You will have to spin them quite a bit to get somwe decent boost, and that will generate a lot of heat. Wait and look for some 250's . They will do a MUCH better job on the BB motors.

merc put wieand 177's on the 525SC, which was a 454, the most boost you could get was 6-7 psi with the smallest pulley,
they ran good, but it was on the edge, needed a intercooler, for a 502, it will work, but you have to spin them fast and the gain is not that great, go with 250's spin them slower and you have less heat and more boost.

I agree on the 177's...weiand says they are fine on 502's, I'm putting together a 489 with a 177, I think the B&M's have been purchased by edelbrock, but not certain, they are selling blowers that look like B&M's now...Rob
