setting total timing ???

Hello,
When checking the total advance in the timing do you rev the engine and adjust the timing gun to the balancer is in zero. This is a voyager dist. set at 13 deg base timing and not sure how to check the total timing any help would be greatful. Thanks

yep. you outlined the procedure.
Usually, you note the baseline and begin speeding up. Note the rpm where it begins to change (sometimes right off idle, sometimes there is a flat zone - especially useful for roots blower botors). Then you note the rpm where it STOPS changing, and the total advance. Now you know your curve.
