Longer hose needed after intake swap
Got a buddy with a '97 29' Powerquest with twin 7.4L motors. He recently had the local marina wrench swap out the stock boat anchor intakes for a set of Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intakes. The molded hoses that run from the engine water pump to the thermostat housing are now too short. To lengthen the hoses the mechanic cut the hoses in half and placed in a section of plastic tubing. This solution has proven to be problematic with the connection constantly coming loose. For those that have made this swap before, will the 454 MAG hose be long enough to fit without cutting? See the diagram below and look at part number 13 which lists two different part numbers for the hose in question.

This have been covered several posts. The advise I got when I did my was simple.. I went to Home Depot and bought a steel 3 inch pipe threaded on both ends. Cut the hose in half and put two hose clamps on it.
I never thougth about plastic pipe, I would think that would work fine if you get the clamps tight.

also remember that most of these type places say that they have stainless steel hose clamps, but the screw is steel. I also got some that were 9/16 wide(Norton 300 stainless) ,gripped more

I went to an auto parts store with the stock Merc hose in hand and asked the kid behind the counter to find me a hose that was longer. Quick and just a few bucks ............
