Probably coming from a leak in the heat exchanger.

Find an actual radiator / heat exchanger repair shop (that actually does the work and not just a middle man). $150 is what it cost me for my repair of freeze damage.

Definitely a breech inside the heat exchanger. Most likely from freeze damage from even a little bit of water in one of the copper tubes. Recommend next winter pickling the coolant system with anti-corrosion anifreeze to totally eliminate the potential

Last year I had a radiator cap fail such that it would not syphon back antifreeze out of the reservoir as the system cooled. The reservoir kept getting higher and higher. I hope it is something that simple for you.

If you do a search on 406 heat exchanger leaks etc., you'll find this is a common problem. Especially if you live in the northern U.S. with "sustained" (days/weeks) sub-freezing temps. The tubes in those excahngers are very, very thin. so it doesn't take much of a "sustained" freeze to pop them.

FYI, I was lead to expect that my freeze damage would be, as you describe, in the thin tubes. However in my case the freeze pushed the entire tube manifold collector end plate loose from the case. They just pushed it back and rebraized it in place to complete the repair.
