Flat tappet camshaft or hydraulic roller (and new or used camshaft?)

New flat tappet cam and oil subject is all over - make sure to use something with a good load of ZDDP (Zinc) - I broke my last one in on Castrol HD30 and a bottle of comp cam's break-in lube...

A break-in oil is simply one with a big dose of anti-wear additives and good detergency. ZDDP etc...you want to minimize initial wear get the seals to seal etc...it's for rollers and non-roller cams...

Since you are going to use Royal Purple...(good choice) use this for break-in...20 hours then Switch to 20W-50 RP.

Good choice for a conventional oil for breakin or general use.

Penzoil Platinum SYTnthetic 15W-50 is a newer formuilation which actually is quite good.

Roayl Purple Synthetic is a very pure Group IV PAO with excellent additives.

The Purple is just a dye is all....
