Default GPS screen fades and dies

My garmin 172C gps fades quickly when exposed to direct sunlight. I sent it back to garmin, they replaced it and it does the same. I keep it covered most of the time unless I need it. Any better units ?? Thanks, Dave

I think its not your GPS unit, may be powersorce on your plug ?!

I have the same in my boat works great, even bought it used .
The only problem i had was the plug in the back, new cable now fine.

Most of the time it's that little crimp on fuse holder they use.

This unit may be equipped with a Thrill-Seeker chip. Your GPS might just be getting bored with the slow-azz speeds your running. Try flooring the boat and see if it wakes-up!

Is 95+ quick enough? Anyhow...The electronic part seems fine, it tracks and the speed readouts are good. It just gets fainter and fainter in the direct sun. I cover it and its bright again..
