A buddy just had the entire front snout with pulley, break off and drop in the bilge. This was on a 496ho with whipple running 5#( I think). Superchargers and cast cranks do not play well together. BTW this was on the boat for only 2 years, very few hours, and perfect servicing. Not pretty.

We have Installed several 496 Whipple kits and they are great. If you do the math you cant beat it Because all the other up grades kits require headers and they are big bucks. If you need more info on the Whipple kit feel free to call @281-326-7800. We wont be back in the shop till monday as we have huricane Ike comming toward us.

I have a pair of 525EFI Whipple-Charged Engines that Dynoed at 768 HP and 725 ft-lbs at 5800 rpm. After rebuilding the engines, going to 509 ci with Flat Top Pistons and making them true Blower engines the package works great. I run lower HP for longevity and realiability, but they can be easily cranked up to 900 HP.
The trick is in having the proper software to check all the vital signs when tuning. I would strongly recommend the WHipple Package.

True. It's not pretty at all. The 496 cranks have a hole drilled into them, and a pin installed to stop the balancer from being installed on the crank too far. It's about 3 inches from the end of the crank. This is the exact spot where the crank broke in half. It split right in the center of the hole. Time for complete rebuild, this time with all forged parts. Like I said, cast parts and blowers don't mix.
