10W-40 Amsoil Marine Synthetic Motor Oil
Anyone use this new 4 stroke oil in an i/o application? I have a 496 MagHO and was thinking of switching to it. Any thoughts? I have heard that amsoil is really good, but don't know if this is their best option for this engine. Seems that the marine version has a number of additives that help inhibit corrosion as well as other magic foo foo stuff. Also don't know if moving from the 25-40 merc oil to a 10-40 synthetic is a good idea.
Thanks

I use their Series 2000 Synthetic 20W-50 Racing Oil and it performs extremely well. Not cheap but worth it.
Nice thing is it is available in gallons making changing a little easier . Just changed mine for Winter storage.

That product would be just fine, however, a better application would be their new 15w-50 Dominator Racing Oil, since they don't make the above mentioned Series 2000 Racing anymore. They have replaced it with the 15w-50. I have twin 496ho's, and that is what I run. Along with their EAO 24 oil filter and their 75/80w-90 Marine Gear Lube in my X drives. Its not going to hurt anything to switch over from the merc oil. By federal law everything has to compatible.
