Question Anyone ever add a BLOWER to a HP500 ??

I was wonderign if anyone has added a blower to a HP500 carbureted motor before? If so, what did you do? What performance did it add (HP)? If any ... what problems did you encounter? What problems did it cause? What is the downside? Do I need to modify any part of the existing motor?

Thanks!

P.S. I am thinking about a B&M 250 setup.

Whatever type you end up using you better include an intercooler. Also you should replace the head gaskets with either Fel-pro high performance marine or a stainless or copper all metal gskt. My personal recommendation for a blower is a Whipplecharger. I believe at 6 psi boost your motor will make around 750 hp. Keep us posted!!!

Jeffrey........here's the EFI Whipple set up I was telling you about.

Bigwavz.......I'm sure he's not worried about the level of boost. It's probabaly just for show! (under the bus Jeffrey)

Default Whipple Supercharger

Whipple has a kit designed for the carbureted HP500 engine as well as the EFI. It retain's your present carburetor and utilizes it in draw through fashion. The installation will add about 2 inches in height depending on your flame arrestor selection, I would recommend the larger 3.3 liter supercharger and intercooler. I would rate the engine at 700 HP @ 5250, and the parts all come blue to match the Mercury high performance colors. You should also add nosecones for additional water flow to feed the intercooler. The B&M 250 your considering will need an intercooler which makes it much taller and will probably make 600-620 HP when completed. Since your so connected, I'll offer you a special OSO discount price!! The Whipple's and a set of five blade Herring's should get a twin step Top Gun to 92-93 mph.

Thanks Nort for the vote of confidence! Unfortunately, you are incorrect. The only way my boat will go 92-93 is if Ron bumped into the back of me traveling 100+ in his boat and nudged me forward for a split second.

The F-2 boat - in its prime - saw 91 on the GPS. Today, it has added weight and 100 hrs. since the last engine rebuilds. It realistically runs 87-88. It would run a mile or two less if I had not added the nosecones. I believe that they are good for a mile or so.

By adding 125hp (per side) it is likely that the boat will pick up a solid 7-8mph. Put it right in line with your estimate Nort. Best I could hope for?? Maybe 95-96??
