Default outdrive oil

had some one from a marine perf. shop in calif. a couple of years recommend using a gear oil from a company called "lubrication engineers. " swore that oil prevented wear on the drive internals. well after 3 years of use my mechanic took the drive apart to change the lower drive case that started to corode on the skeg. he asked me what kind of oil that i was using and i told him. he said that there was no wear on the unit and the bearings were perfectly clean !! so i guess this was advice well worth it !!
