Default XR trim limiters

what are the trim spacers for in the XR conversion kit (gimbal bearing, bellows ring, and trim spacers)? what exactly do they do, and why do you need them ?

They stop the drive from trimming up as high. The u joints are larger so they will get into the bellows and the retaining ring if it is trimmed up all the way.
