Johnson OutBoards
Hi All,
I am pretty new to the site and very new to boating in general. In fact I am now shopping around for my first boat. I am looking at a center console with twin Johnson 250s. The engines are about 8 years old, spent the last half of their life in fresh water and have about 430 hours on them. Boat is a 33 footer.
So my questions to anyone who might be familiar with this engines:
1) How good are these Johnson engines? Reliability? Efficiency?
2) With 430 hours on them now, how long before a major rebuild or the need to replace them all together?
3) How do they compare to Mercury or Yamaha?
4) How each are they to repair/maintain?
5) Any other information that you think might help a novice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

8 year old johnson with 430 hr's, don't get far from shore, keep the rpm's down from max, and start shopping, merc's are the best, but pricey, yamaha's are good, and cheaper, but sometime's not the easiest to get parts for.
