I've got my engine at 32*. That's with a v-8 module that has 24* built in. So what kind of base timing do you have ? My v-6 module has 14* built in. If you had the same module you'd have like 18-20* base ?? I was told that would be a tough starting motor when it warmed ???

EGT's can be decieving! With the timing further retarded the fuel may still be burning some as it starts to exit. With the timing advanced the fuel has had more time to burn and thus all that is coming out is gas. Your engine likes the lower timing, you may even like 30 degrees better, I would have tried it. Don't think you can defeat the laws of physics. If you get a batch of bad gas and stay in it too long with alot of timing it will melt.
