HELP!!

I've shredded my starter, which I thought was a High Torque, Hi Perf, strong starter blah blah blah...

As it turns out, it wasn't. It was the correct marine replacement gear reduction staggerd bolt starter to fit a Gen VI BBC but it still had the plastic or nylon whatever gears inside it which didn't last five seconds!

Better that it happened on the trailer rather than the water!!

What is a good brand of STRONG starter capable of handling high compression (~11:1) that's reliable and will fit the Gen VI?

Anyone have any tips, hints or experience??

Any ideas or tips will be greatly apprecciated!

CVR John boy.The best there is.They make a marine and an auto version.They fit either staggered or straight holes.
Search CVR and you'll get it.

I have always gave good reviews for DB electric, (I have had no problems what so ever with their alternators) but my friend just went through 3 starters from them. He told them that he had a 540 with 10.5:1 they sent him a starter saying it would work. It would only last 3-5 starts. He had his timing locked out and any time it would kick back it would destroy those nylon gears. You need a starter with the steel gears.

Does anyone know which manufacturers make starters with steel gears? I can't seem to find many who actaully list them. I saw a Powerforce or something at Summit that said it was rated for engines up to 18:1 so I figure that's pretty strong right? Mind you it's about $380!

1 have a 540dart 10to 1 comp i use truck starter. works great and my timing on 42 degrees
