Default Exhaust tip gaskets???

When I pulled my tips off last fall, there were gaskets between the flanges and the gel coat. They were destroyed when I pulled it apart. The tips sit half under water when the boat is off plane. They arent available from the manufacturer and are oblong as my tips flange is at a 45 degree angle to the tube. I think a good seal with marine grade silicone will do. Ill scuff the gel coat lightly so it can get a bite on it. Any other opinoins?

Well, not knowing any better. 2 years ago I resealed my tailpipes behind the ring with, of all things, 5200. I think my tailpipes are part of my transom now! And I didn't just put a bead around the tips, I forced it in the hole to fill it up solid!
On the positive side, no leaks.

Chris do yours exit out the side like mine do? I really need to redo mine also, but they aren't leaking so I haven't been overly anxious.

You might try 3M 4200, which seals like 5200, can be used above and below th waterline, but allows the parts to be disassembled if needed. About 1/2 the strength of 5200.

4200 is what I use !!!

5200 is too common a name when it comes to sealant. The stuff should come with a WARNING and only be used for a permanent bond.

Cool

You don't need to scuff it up. Just clean the gell coat of any dirt and old gasket material and then use acetone to clean any residue off. Use silicone to seal behind the tips.

Id go with the 4200. Or 5200 if you don't ever want to remove them again. Both will seal very well. Don't use silicone. Eventually it will come apart and fall out.

Chris, how are things going?
I had marine grade silicone on those tips.
Both the old ones you now have. And the new TCMS installed
This i feel makes them sealed, clean looking, and removable.
