what noises does your engine make when you have reversion?

I have not checked anything as of yet and I dont have my boat at home right now (at marina for gimbal stuff)
I plan on doing an extensive tune up of both engines when she comes home
Caps, Rotors, Coils, wires, plugs, clean and scrub flame arrestors, New intake manifolds, clean out heads, new thermostats, new hoses, new fuel filters/water separators, oil changes and basically make sure everything is perfect prior to firing her up.
If it is something as stupid as a cap, ill be happier than a pig in mud but I cant see that being it for how do you explain the boat shaking like I hit something?
A miss will cause vibration but not a slam feeling but the stutter would be explained
God I need my damn boat back already, weather is just starting to break and get a little comfortable and I have alot of work to do

Moisture in the cap can cause a miss or misfire. If the fire happens to go to a cylinder with the piston comming up on the compression stroke you can get a BIG Knock or a backfire out the carb (hard on Holly power valves).
I've had alot of moisture problems in the Spring from the boat sitting all winter, spring rains and cleaning the boat and engine during Spring comissioning.
Good Luck! Expect the worst but hope for the best.
FYI: Misfiring can cause "carbon tracking" in the cap which will make it more prone to misfiring the next time there is mosture present.

RickR, thanks man, Ill look at it when they finish my rig over at the marina.
I was going to just simply replace ALL that **** anyway and really go to town on it and replace just about everything in reach.
What trace signs does carbon tracking leave?
Are they the chalky white spots that build up (corrosion and break down of the metal) or is it something else?

Jay13--Hope I'm wrong--probably am, but what you describe sounds an awful lot like what my 420 was doing prior to ripping it down. As it ends up, one exhaust cam lobe was just about round, had a sticky lifter-same lobe, and a slightly bent pushrod. actually ran not too bad at idle,tapped a little, but when i got up to about 3000 started popping through the carb. Hope its not this!
