How to mount a sea strainer?
00 Baja H2X 454 Mag MPI. The hoses are routed so tight against the motor there's no way I can fit it without cutting a hose and rerouting the water away to the strainer. I'm OK with that and mounting the strainer against the bulkhead or transom or stringer, but where can I get the proper hoses to do this? Also, what type of fitting should I get so I do not restrict waterflow? If my intake is 1.25" should I go with 1.5" and adapters? Thanks, Dan

Dan, use marine 1 1/4 ID flex hose ,commonly distributed byTrident. Also use a minimum of marine only 1" full flow fittings which will clamp to the 1 1/4 hoses. Don't forget to valve off upstream of the new strainer.....Warren

Find a convenient place to put the strainer as you will have to get to it when it fills up with trash. You want to have a shut off valve between the strainer and where the water comes into the boat, transom assembly or bottom of hull. 1" pipe works with 1-1/4" water line. Good luck.

How about putting a valve between the shut-off and the strainer with a hose leading to the bilge in case you have a leak the bilge pump couldn't handle. You could use the raw water pump to help out. I've seen pictures of large cruising boats with engine mounted/driven "crash pumps" for just this purpose.
Just an idea.
