Geared Up System
Anybody know anything about there product?

I was thinking about buy a 36' cigarette with some burnt out engines and replacing them with a single 480hp Yanmar diesel with twin bravo ones. Splitting the torque, so it should have no problems for the bravos. Seems like a simple inexpensive and fuel efficient system. I know the 480 is much more efficient than twin 315's. And I haven't heard great things about he bmax diesel drives.

I remember reading somewhere about a chain drive system in some of the typhoon boats. Anyone know who was making that?

Is there anything bad about having twin drives connected to a single engine?

There was an article in Powerboat a while back about a twin drive single engine setup. Lots of power loss, lots of drag. I think I would rather have it the other way around, two engines and one very beefy drive. For a diesel not real speed demon it may be good to split the power.

Young Performance

IMCO made a gearbox for a two drive/one engine setup a few years ago. It was a sharp looking piece. The only problem I see is that the boat will be a slug with one 480. I would think it would work good if you put more power in it.
There are quite a few monetary benefits to a single engine, however, if you have a problem, you are coming in on the end of a rope. It sure is nice to have that backup engine.

There was a 35 Nordic with something like a single 1200hp and the Imco splitter. I think the re were problems with the gear box.

480hp in a 36 Cig???? You'd be lucky to hit 50mph.

Wouldn't it simply be better to mate the 480 to a SSM V drive. Costs less, and fewer parts to break. A used SSMV, is quite reasonable.

Probably be a heck of a lot cheaper and easier to just throw a couple stock big blocks in it. You will never be able to resell it with a single.

and still won't do 50 mph. Maybe a seatec diesel and a single #5 or an Arny.

I agree, going to be a trawler version of a perf boat, use 2 if you do it...
