Aluminum Trailers Bunks
I am getting an aluminum trailer to haul a 40' boat on and when looking at these many only have the two bunks that run under the strakes 4' or 5' apart from each other and quite long, I would think there should be a keel type set of bunks also but most don't have....I looked at a 47' Fountain that had this set-up also, I was just wondering if this was enough support? I know this is where the boats have the bunks sitting when they are rack stored but for down the highway will they be ok?....Thanks for any imput you may have on this subject,....Fred

I had the same type setup under my Sutphen for 6 years. Did a lot of towing and never had a problem, just make sure it is strapped down good. I much prefered my aluminum trailer to the steel trailer I have under the cat now. My dad has them same setup for his 32 Chris Stinger, 3 years, no problems.

My aluminum so florida trailer has the strake bunks, 15 ft or so long, then keel supports forward toward the winch stand. 30' scarab, still straight as an arrow. Don't know othrwise.

Thanks for that info guy's, I was told the same thing by others but I wanted to make sure, I may make up some keel supports to at least make it easier to guide boat up when landing it on trailer,....Fred
