Reliability & Dependability 500hp w/Procharger
I am looking at a boat with a single Mercruiser 500 hp with 470hp carburator with m1 procharger 250hrs on engine and 50 of those hrs are with procharger installed. How many hrs can I expect to get out of this set up before I would need to rebuild? I am not very mechanical and I am looking for reliability & dependability. I was planning to have a survey done for a compression check what else should I be looking for? boat has a new Brave 1 low water pick-up outdrive. Please share your knowledge & expertiece.

Mr Govnt...........Yea....Go for the survey. And at the very least get an oil sample analysis. Probably the most valuable thing you could get data from. (other than hull structure.........and good ol' common sense). Thats about the only real way you will be able to tell what is going on inside the engine. (and make sure the oil has just not been changed for that sample).

I run Prochargers and have no reliability problems. I would be leary about buying a used blower motor though. A pressure or leak down test should give you piece of mind.
