Newbie Outboard/GelCoat Question?
Hey guys I'm new to the forum! I going to buy a 1990's 21 Daytona with an outboard and was hoping to get some advice (my first boat)
1) What motor should I be looking for? 2.4 Bridgeport, 300x, 300xs? Whats the big difference? I want to be able to hit the 100mph mark!
2) Only a few of the boats from that era have a descent gel coat/paint scheme. Can you get something re-gel coated? or is it possible to paint it? And what something like that cost?
Thanks in advance for your help!

1) welcome to the board.
2) This is your first boat, and you want to do 100 mph? Do me a favor let me know what lake your on so i know which one not to be on that day...
3)Daytonas are a tunnel boat, vary dangerous for a first time buyer! Look for a 2.4 Bridge port then put a 36 pitch prop on until you get use to it then step down in pitch until you achieve your max speed..
4) Gel coat, yes you can do what ever you want with gel, do yourself a favor and get a book on it and do some reading.. If you don't know what your doing then it can get vary tricky..
You can also paint, it has to be urethane like imron or awl-grip..

Thanks for the input! I guess "first boat" is an understatement....
I should add that I have grown up on the river/lake and have plenty of boating experience under my belt. I guess this will be the first one I can call "mine". I also understand you need to respect a new boat until you have some seat time.
