Default exhaust flaps

I was planning on using the stainless internal flaps in my new tips. But after talking to a few people they say that they make too much noise at idle. Is this true??? They had suggested going with the external rubber flaps, but I'm not really crazy about the look. Anyone running wide open--no flaps, being careful about pulling back too quick, I realize.????

Don't do it-- First time you have an emergency and yank the throttle back you will have a problem. Even backing up and letting off the gas may be a problem.

Eddie Marine makes a replacement rubber internal flapper. It consists of a center rod with a rubber butterfly flap on each side. I just installed some on mine at the end of last season. BTW-- I run these internals and the external flaps... reversion would be costly.

go to eddiemarine.com and look under exhaust tips. The actually have both rubber and stainless steel interna flappers.

I have a set like KC described that I dont need. They have maybe 20 hours on them and look like new. They are for a 4" exhuast. I put on the Shotgun silencers so I dont need em. Ill look for the reciept but half of what I paid sounds fair. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if interested.

How do you replace these internal flappers? I hae a spring broken on one of mine, and I may just go ahead and replace both sides.

Thumbs up Flapppers

I sent my tips out to Eddie Marine and had them install the stainless flapper in them.
Cost $136
I also run the rubber flap on outside.
The old internal flappers were rubber and got burned out from
installing a long riser exhaust.
I'm pleased with them and have no noise problems at idle.

Default EMI Flappers Install

To install the rubber flappers, I removed the tips, drilled the holes for the center rod, slipped the rod with rubber flappers attached in through the tip and positioned the rod out the drilled holes, pressed the brass centering ends on the rods and re-installed the tips. Simple as that!

However, since posting previously, on the first trip out this year I blew both the rubber flaps out the end of the tip. I need to call Eddie and see what they can do. My local dealer was no help and says that they no longer deal with Eddie. Actually, Eddie Marine no longer deals with them!

Hope this helps
Travis
