Default Carb gurus, please read.!

Ok guys and gals, i've got a carb question. I'm trying to mess with this stock Weber (carter AFB) carburetor on my 97 454. I've modified the engine to the point where the stock jetting is completely 2 lean. This carb has the 3-step primary metering rods and jets. Does anybody know if you can swap these with the older style 2-step metering rods and jets? There isn't hardly anything available in the 3-step sets, but there's plenty of choices in the 2-step rods and jets. I know i should dump the carb and swap to something better, but i'm out of $$ for this year and the engine is leaning out terribly. Thanks.!

I had one on my original Baja. I did many mods to it and had to do some carb work. I found that the Edelbrock Carb is basically the same and bought a calibration kit #1480 for it. The kit had everything I needed metering rods, springs, jets, etc... I also milled the choke horn off. The carb worked real well.

Thanks 302SR1. I'm hoping I can use the Edelbrock parts. I'm concerned about the changes Weber made. The 96 and 97 carbs have a weird 3-step rod, jet, and piston and piston bore that i'm not sure I can swap out to the old (edelbrock style) 2-step rod and jets. What i'm hoping to do is hang the old style rods on the new style piston, and swap the jets.....

Gotta luv the interchangeability of this stuff. I was just hoping somebody did it before me....

If it doesn't work, i may hafta find an older carb. That shouldn't be hard.....

Mine was a 96 and everything seemed to swap just fine.
