Installing all new gauge sets in the dash.
What are people doing as far as the hr meter? How do you handle explaining the hrs if you
have new meters?
I plan on selling the boat eventually and want to be honest about hrs on the boat.
I am putting new power in this week and there for new gauges. Hrs will reflect for the new
engines but not actual hours.
If you where buying a boat is this really important?
My Formula is 18yrs old so maybe hrs don't matter anymore.

Either hook up the hour meters to a battery until they read current hours or document current hours on your maintenance sheet and let the new meters read hours on the fresh power.

I would just hang on to the old meters to help explain when you sell. If I were buying it I would prefer the meters matched the fresh power.

I was planning on keeping the original meters to show proof. I also thought about placing them under the hatch in a gauge cluster bracket.

I would do it the way you are doing it. New hour meters to match the new power and just keep the old ones.
I agree, its not as important on an older boat unless it has extremely low hours.

The hours on the boat are determined by the date of manufacture.
The hours on an old engine is irrelevent.
The hours on the current power is critical.
The hours on the drives / trans etc can be derived by keeping old meters!
Match the new guages with the new power and keep the old guages to match the drives is my advice!

I think most people only care about hours on the current power. Hull hours could just be an estimate. It's a lot easier to inspect the hull visually than the motors. By keeping the old meters would show the new buyer your honest which would help with the sale.

use a 9v battery on each guage. a 9v battery last approx 120 hrs. so if new to put on more than 120 hrs on each of your gauge you must buy 2 batteries per gauge. also please be acurate with your hours as anyone with a scanner can find out what the real hours are anyway. when I help survey a boat and find a discrepancy in the hours, I cant help but veiw the seller in a different way.
