Question Is it possible to convert a 350 Mag into a 377 Scorpion?

Is it possible to convert a 350 Mag into a 377 Scorpion or is it a completely different motor? I know they are both small blocks. If you can convert a 350 Mag, how much would it cost?

hmmm good question . I know you can stroke a small block to 383. Perhaps if you overbore a 350 you get to 377.

You can buy one-piece rear main seal forged 3.75 cranks, carillo rods, and J &E pistons for about half of what Merc would want for what they put in that Scorp (if you shop around).
I'm not sure of the mfg's of the internals to the Scorp, but it would not be hard to come up with the after-market pieces as good or better quality for less $$$. I'm sure there would be some re-mapping of the ECU required.

I've never heard of a 383. What horsepower does a 383 put out and would I be better off trying to make the 350 into a 383 instead of a 377? I've heard there is not a whole lot you can do to a 350 to get more horsepower except blowers, but I've also heard blowers aren't that great of an alternative. What are some options that I have to gain some horsepower and how much $ would it cost and how much horsepower would I gain?

Go 383 with a long rod. If your going to all the trouble of new crank, etc then have the block machined and bored .030 to get 383. Be sure to use a kit with the 6.0" rods- better rod angles and ratios. Try www.speedomotive.com.

Lefty...383 small blocks are a time tested way to get HP from small blocks.ick up a Hot Rod or Car Craft Mag Lots of Manf. sell the kits. Just have to lower Comp. & choose proper cam. Or if you got the scratch......Lingenfelter in Indiana is THE man with these.
SBCs are very reliable & cheaper & lighter than BBs Unless you just need the grunt that big cubes make {Large heavy boats}

Lefty, the question I ask my customers is what is your goal, how much speed do you want to gain? If you will be satisfied with 2,3 or maybe 4 mph then go ahead and modify. If you want 10-15 MPH than a blower is the most practical way to go.

I have a speed calculator at Speed Calculator that is pretty accurate, it will give you an idea of how much power is needed for the increase you want.

I am pretty much in the dark about all this stuff. I don't know a whole lot about motors. Thanks for all of you guys' help. One more question, can someone give me a lamens explanation of blowers (what they are and what they do) along with some prices.

Thanks,
Lefty

I just built my 383 over the winter and have about 12 hours on it now and love it.. I had around $5800 into it... forged crank, rods, pistons, 9.9:1 comp ratio. vortec heads, RPM air gap intake, 750 holley, Crane roller cam 222/230 duration, .543/.563 lift on a 112 LSA.. and the valvetrain was all crane and EMI exhaust, around 400 hp i believe. she is built like a brick **** house and now hauls ass with the best of them LOL!! spin her 5400- 5500 rpm right now.. stepping up to a 25" pitch to bring it down to 5200...

got any questions let me know
