Default 28 Donzi water pickup

I'm working on a customers Donzi, 350 mags Bravo Ones. The drive shaft housing and the bell housing are both corroded badly at the water pickup. The o ring won't seal, so it's just sucking air. Both drives are like this. I'm thinking of just installing pickups on the bottom or transom but since it has steps I'm not sure where to put them. Both drives are pretty bad, boats kept on a lift which I think is the problem.
Any suggestions as to location or should I just replace the bell housings and upper drive housings?

I had a 26zx twin step with a Latham pickup on the bottom of the transom between the plane and keel. I had a water pressure gauge. It always showed good pressure. I will try to find a pic. I don't have one on this computer.
