Good DAY ???? need advice??
Ok go to marina...battery is dead. Jump with box get going get about 4 miles and the volt gauge goes to 0 turn around head back home make it fine.
Question A) good plave to get an alternator rebuilt in the Detroit area???
Oil pressure??? I am waiting on a oil sample to get back from the lab to see how bad this latest oil was but the guage says bareley 40 psi at crusing more like 30!! just put 25w50 from mercury quicksilver.. saw no real change in the oil pressure was running a Schaeffers 15w40.
Question B) what move next??? guage?? sending unit?? or can it be the pump ?? and how hard or easy is the R&R of the motor..
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS OR IMPUT
THANK YOU

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical guage. Also try changing the oil filter to a NAPA or other good brand -- Not FRAM. Also I like to run a straight weight oil 40 wt. VALVOLINE RACING OIL.

I bought a rebuilt starter (they also rebuild alternators) from Professional Blue Starter in Madison Heights two years ago. I found them in the Yellow Pages and they had what I needed for a really good price( I think it was $85). That's the only experience I've had with them, but the starter has never given me any problems (knocking on wood...)

With that many hours, I'd say the oil pressure is from worn main bearings. 30 to 40 pounds really isn't that bad on an engine with that much time on it. What is the oil pressure reading hot at idle?

With 600-700 hrs, that oil pressure sounds decent to me. Did it just recently drop??? 1lb of psi for evey 1000 rpms is adequate.
I'm not saying the pressure is great, but if thats the only problem on a 700 hr engine then I'd live with it till something else happens.
