Default 1:36 vs 1:50.. Top speed???

My baja 208 came with a odd combo of a 490 hp 502 and 136s. I was reading some posts in the baja site and many there seem to think that the 150s would give me better mid range AND top speed!! Im currently hitting 73 mph at 5100 with a 23 mirage. Holeshot is slow but im not real concerned about holeshot. I would like more mid range and would love more top speed. Is a gearing change costly?

Thanks Guys...SJ

Go with 1.5 gears & 25 mirage plus. Not exactly sure of the prop but boat will be more responsive. Only time 1.36 gears need to be used is when you run out of prop (32-36)

Turbojack is right, mid range will be a lot better with 1.50 gears. You're probably looking at around $350.00 for a NEW 1.50 gear. I wouldn't expect much of a change on top end. Maybe 1-2 mph faster ???

Thats what I paid for a merc 1.50 HP gear the last time I blew the floor out of one in my drive. That was for 1 gear though.

You had me scared. When I went from 1.5 to 1.36 about 8 yeaars ago it cost me around $100.00 for the changeout.

Default Please excuse the opportunist in me,

But I have the two 1.5 gears (forward and reverse, ) you would need for $200 in the parts for sale section...........

Forgot, you would need a different pinion too. Me no have that.

SJ,

want more top end ? Strap a TC engine in that puppy......

Actually, one of the best ways to gain mph is to decrease your X dimension by adding a short shaft outdrive. IMCO make them

This year I did that on my '94 195 Glastron and jumped from 58mph to 75.2mph (it's only got 3 hrs on it). Just the new engine netted me 66mph this yr.
You have the bullet with a 502, now just pull the outdrive up 2-3" with a shorty and gain 8-10mph.

NO WAY!!! will you gain 8-10mph by raising the X 2 inches. If it was that simple don't you think everyone would do it???? You might gain 2-3 mph and thats only if it was set up deep to begin with.
