cat conversion from I/O to OB
Hey guys, how hard and what is exactly involved in converting from my I/O to OB? I was going to supercharge my 454 mag mpi but with all of the problems you guys are having, I am very concerned. I would have to change my hydraulic steering, add motor mounting brackets, fill in the transom. I guess I would have to remove the k planes. Would the reliabilty improve? After all, they are not car engines put in a boat. They were designed to be used in a marine inviroment. I would think a pair of 300's would push my 30' Cobra cat to 100. Please help. Joe.

What trouble?
I've got your engine in my 25' Daytona, with a Whipple system, I am extremely pleased with the install, reliability and performance. Best speed so far of 99.0 GPS. 75 hrs total, 72 with the Whipple.
Cruise mileage is pretty darn good to (cruise at 3300 ish at 60 gps.)
In a 30' single you will likely need to consider drive upgrades as that's a lot of boat to push out of the water with a single, alot of wetted surface area while planing too. Your call.
I suspect selling/ trading your boat would be more feasible than converting it to OB power. I suspect two OB's are real thirsty compared to a single big block too.- not their fault- just a two stroke efficiency thing. Good luck!
